GLOBAL STEERING GROUP
DEFINES FIRST PROJECTS
The Global Steering Group for Education and Training in Diagnostic Imaging, organized last June by the ISR and the World Health Organization, has proposed a series of monographs on basic radiology by body systems as its first efforts.
Publications on radiography of the musculo-skeletal system, abdomen and obstetrical region, chest and heart, trauma and neuro-radiology will make up the first group, announced Holger Pettersson of
Other initiatives will be developed on equipment maintenance, radiation protection, quality assurance and facility management, said Harald Ostensen, WHO medical officer for diagnostic imaging and laboratories and co-chairman of the global group.
The steering group was a product of a four-day workshop on radiology education sponsored by WHO. Joseph A. Marasco, of
Dr. Pettersson said that he hopes to persuade various collaborating societies to take a lead on the proposed monographs and other efforts. The group hopes to explore print and electronic publishing, possibly with translation into several languages. Both co-chairmen emphasized that, in addition to the steering group’s own projects, they hope that the group can help to coordinate and distribute the educational products of other radiology groups.
